“The Way Things Work” started as a nonfiction book by David Macaulay in 1988, with technical text by Neil Ardley. The book covered topics such as machines, science, levers, gears, radio telescopes, transmissions, and more. The book was updated in 1998 as “The New Way Things Work” with more modern technology such as microchips, digital machinery, jackhammers, digital cameras and much more.
